GDS provides highly accurate dense topographic & imagery survey data for railway feasibility studies, design, operation and maintenance to optimize cost and time. GDS’s first LiDAR project was in Malaysia in 1989 for the Hill Resort Road project. For the ECE PLUS 2 project, one year after initial survey, the majority of alignment was changed but with LiDAR and MOSS/MX software, design changes could be implemented efficiently ensuring the road construction was completed on time.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

GDS was commissioned by Minconsult Sdn Bhd to carry out a LiDAR and digital imagery survey for sites in Kelana Jaya, Klang, and Damansara. The purpose of this survey was to provide necessary data and information required for the investigations and design of the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 alignment. The first corridor was located between Kelana Jaya and Klang with a length of 35 km and 1 km width. The second corridor was located between Kelana Jaya and Damansara and covered a length of 8 km and a width of 1 km.

The LiDAR data acquisition involved four aerial flight missions for two and a half days, at an altitude of 450m above ground level (AGL). The survey was successfully completed despite the project areas being located within the restricted airspace around Subang Airport. The resulting LiDAR point clouds were acquired with an average point density of 12.5 points/m2. The average ground point spacing is 0.59. The pixel resolution of the collected images was 10 cm. The data processing was completed within two weeks. GDS implemented rigorous quality control procedures for the LiDAR data acquisition and processing throughout the project. This project was successfully performed within the specified schedule and conformed to the client’s requirements.
